Gurten - Bern's local mountain
The Gurten is Bern’s local mountain. It stands at 860 meters over sea level and can be accessed by train or by foot. The mountaintop offers a fantastic view across the entire city of Bern. The view extends even further from the Gurten’s observation tower.
But that’s not all. The Gurten is also a delight for children. The little ones can live it up on the playground and miniature railway. Bigger visitors can also have their share of the fun – on the Gurten’s own toboggan run, newly opened in 2016.
Visitors’ taste buds also have something to look forward to. The Gurten has two restaurants: the self-service restaurant “Tapis Rouge” and the à la carte restaurant “Gurtners.” Those who would prefer to prepare their own meal can make use of one of the park’s barbecue grills.
The lush park is also a pleasant setting for seminars and meetings. Additionally, the Gurten offers a broad range of cultural highlights: besides the open-air Gurten Theater and the Bäre-Talk with its well-known guests, the Gurtenfestival each July draws thousands of visitors to Bern’s local mountain.
